Zekveld’s Garden Market is family owned and operated. In the Fall of 2000, we (John and Maxine Zekveld) acquired 94 acres of property ½ km. from Reece’s Corners on London Line. Eighty five acres of the property are devoted to crops. Apples, plums, peaches, nectarines, and pears grow on twenty two acres. Berries occupy ten acres, and the remainder of the property produces a wide variety of vegetables. All our crops are hand picked and delivered fresh to our on-farm store and farmers markets. In 2005 we opened a small on-farm bakery where we use the fruits from our fields in loaves, tarts, muffins and more. About that time we also started going to a local campground to sell fresh fruits and vegetables on Saturday mornings. In 2009 we were one of the first farmers to join the Petrolia Farmer's Market at the Fairgrounds and we still participate at the Petrolia Farmer’s Market from June to Thanksgiving. We also began making preserves using our extra fruits from our fields•2005 - Added our bakery where we use the fruits from our fields in loaves, tarts, muffins and more. The manure gets spread as a natural fertilizer to get better produce for you! The meat and eggs are sold in our store. Our children grew up in the fields and the store always with us learning as they grew. At first it was play but as they grew older and could work they started earning money. But they kept growing and found dreams of their own to follow. They all come back to help out at times so you still might see them from time to time. Devyn is still here and is working to take it over someday. Now we have grandchildren who love to be on the farm so we will see what the next generation brings.
